It's really not hard to figure out why you love scrapbooking like millions of other women.

What exactly makes so many moms and women addicted to scrapbooking? Is there actually a "psychology of scrapbooking" lurking somewhere?

I can't pinpoint my finger on one exact reason, but I sure have a list of reasons as to why we should scrapbook!

For one reason, just look at the sheer number of people who are simply addicted to scrapbooking! Another telling fact is that majority of the scrapbookers are women. And we women sure know how to hold on to stuff that that reaps us the feel-good-factor.

In 2003, according to the Hobby Industry Association, scrapbooking ranked among the top 3 fastest growing hobbies in the US.

In 2004, scrapbooking is considered as one of the hottest and growing trends in hobbies. It is estimated that one in five US households is engaged in scrapbooking. And each month, millions of scrapbookers are gathering nationwide for scrapbooking workshops, commonly known as "crops". Can you imagine that?

And imagine how scrapbooking actually allows you to create something so intimate, pretty and filled with memories for yourself and your loved ones.

Such a gift of love sure beats all those mass-produced gifts from the malls many times over! And isn't this reason enough to make you wanna grab some of the hottest scrapbook supplies and start scrapping away?

I can still vividly recall the first time I stepped into a crafts store selling some scrapbooking supplies. The moment I laid my eyes on those little packets of beautiful scrapbooking embellishments, my heart simply melted! Wow, it's like being offered my favorite chocolate! I couldn't help but I started to love scrapbooking since then.

Why Scrapbook? Why Love Scrapbooking?

So here's my little list of reasons for being addicted to scrapbooking:

• Protecting your most cherished photos in archival-safe albums so your family, friends, future generations can enjoy them 20 or even 50 years down the road. Isn't this reason alone grand enough for launching your family history preservation mission?

• Keeping you connected to people, events, places and experiences that threaded together the ups and downs of your life. You'll go through so many things in your life, and if you missed out recording these precious memories, "once it's gone, it's gone".

• Feeding you with small doses of accomplishments. You can sneak in a completed page or two here and there at one sitting, while your child is napping or away at school. Imagine the smug satisfaction you feel when you see a completed page. This is empowering and makes you believe that if you can do this, you are capable of doing more.

• Expressing your creativity and having fun with all the selecting, cutting, pasting and journaling involved. OK, there's just some of us who considered ourselves as "artistically dislocated". But how hard can it be with scrapbooking? By mimicking or in scrapbooking term "scraplifting" some layouts that you've seen somewhere, and then adding in your own cutting, pasting, and writing, you’re done! Within minutes, you now hold in your hands a unique piece of your own artwork.

• Preserving the sentimental value of those can't-bear-to-throw-away concert tickets, handmade cards, menus, buttons, etc into the scrapbook. You've just discovered a creative way of recycling these stuffs as page accents on your layouts.

• Expanding your social circle by joining crops or a club near you, and making new friends. Besides having fun, you'll be learning new tips and techniques from these scrapbooking enthusiasts!

• A lifetime hobby that you can carry through from a young girl to a retired granny. Be it that you're 20 or 60, scrapbooking still gives you the pleasure of creating and preserving your wonderful memories in an album.
