Making New Photos Seem Old - Visitor's Scrapbooking Tip

by Ashley

Scrapbooking Tip: To give a scrapbook an "old time" feel, mix 1 part brown paint with 4 parts water and lightly brush the paint over the picture. It will give the photo an aged feel. For an even better aged feel, burn the edges of the photo a little bit. Another possibility is to copy the picture onto paper and dip the picture into black tea and set it to dry.

Fion: Thanks Ashley for sharing with us different methods of giving photos an aged look. Alert: I'll like to caution that you might like to play with these methods only if you have digital copies of these photos and won't mind about acids migrating to your photos.

But if you're concerned about whether these methods might damage your photos and prefer to use acid-free products, you can consider using distressed inks manufactured especially for scrapbooking purposes.

For a weathered, stained look similar to tea stain on your scrapbooking papers/photos, you might like to try out Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads.

Another way is to edit your photo using a photo-editing program such as PhotoShop, Picasa, etc to turn your colored photo into a sepia-toned photo. Instant vintage and aged-look!
