Matting - Visitor's Scrapbooking Tip

by Barbara K (btina)
(Brooklyn, NY, USA)

Scrapbooking Tip: I have found that for a more eye-catching look, all of your pictures need to be matted. I sometimes do 3 or 4 mats each one at least 1/8 of an inch larger than the one before. However, I have gone up to an inch larger. I pick out a color that complements one or more of the colors in the picture and go with it and have fun! Barbara K (Btina)

Fion: Matting is a great way to draw more attention to a photo. Multi-layered matting would certainly make a photo stand out and shine focus on it. With multi-layered matting, you might like to try adding in little words or doodling to the mats for a more whimsical look.

Besides using solid colored cardstock for your mats, you can also have fun with patterned papers. But you might want to keep Barbara's suggestion of using colors that complement the colors in your photo in mind.

For a smooth, casual look, you can choose to mat only one photo in your layout and leave the rest as they are. For a more formal look, you can choose to mat all the photos on a layout.

Take a look at this layout by Lora from Colorado where she matted all her photos about a formal occasion in her layout.

Experiment with single, double, multi-matting layers and see how you like them!
