My Grandpa

Scrapbooking Layout - My Grandpa

Scrapbooking Layout - My Grandpa

I created this page and this scrapbook layout soon after my Grandpa died. This was mostly my tribute page to him, and therefore my inspiration.

This page contains a few elements I'd not tried before. I attained the background by taking a plane white piece of paper and dipping it into coffee, and then allowing it to dry. I then ironed it flat again, after it had dried. Since I had a few papers I wanted to include with my scrapbook page, I attached an envelope to the page, staining it the same way I had the background.

My personal touch was the stitching in the paper around the page, as well as around the title page, the journal block, and the lid of the envelope.

In my journal block, I wrote brief sentences about more complex memories I have of my Grandpa, choosing to bold the verbs and important words.

One last element is my choice of photo effect. The pictures towards the top of the page are newer. The pictures down at the bottom were taken when I was younger, so I applied a sepia tone to them in order to imply that much time had gone by since those pictures had been taken.

One last tip:
To obtain a sharp crease in any paper, first fold it how you wish, then take a conventional clothing iron (on the steam setting), and iron it. If you are afraid of burning the paper, lay an old towel between the iron and the paper.

Great Job.
by: Faith

You did a good job on that. My grandpa just passed away but we have a lot of pics of him so I think that would be a great idea to keep him with us.

Thanks.

Great job!!
by: Jan

Hi Lora:
Your scrapbooking on "My Grandpa" is excellent. I have been looking all over creation for scrapbooking ideas for grandfathers. I have a great deal of old pictures and newspaper articles about him. For years they have been sitting in a bag. It was my husband who suggested that I put all of those precious memories into a scrapbook. He even went out and got me one! This will be my first attempt at scrapbooking. I have been procrastinating; now is the time to get at it. Thanks again for sharing.

Great

I think that's a wonderful page. I'm currently working on a "Grandpa" Scrapbook. You have lot's of things to look at, which I think is great. It also looks very professional, which I like. Nobody wants to have a boring scrapbook page, and you definitely don't. Keep up the good work!

Trying Different Techniques
by: Fion

Lora, thank you for your scrapbook layout! It's really interesting to see how you incorporated new techniques you're trying for the first time on this layout.

It's amazing how creative scrapbookers can be with trying out new stuff, imagine dipping your paper into coffee to achieve the coffee-stained look!

I like how you show contrast between newer and older photos by giving the older ones a sepia tone, instantly creating an "oldish" look.

[Note:] Coffee is not an acid-free substance so it might react with your photos over time. But if you have extra copies of your photos and what you want to achieve is to play with different techniques, I would say, let your creativity run!
